Keep #Balance in Your Life, Here’s How…

balance

Today’s Challenge: Keep balance in your life.

Divide your life into thirds:

1/3 of your life should revolve around your passion, purpose and career. When you do what you love, it isn’t work.

1/3 of your life should revolve around your social life with family, friends and your significant other.

1/3 of your life should revolve around time with yourself, doing what you love, what fills you up and recharges your batteries.

* If you don’t know your purpose, find it. If you don’t know what fills you up, discover it. Try some new activities. Be bold. Nobody can do it for you–tap into your heart and listen.

Balance is important because if one part of your life is lost or in turmoil, the other parts will still be in order and carry you through the hard times.

Be Mindful of Where Your Thoughts are Leading You

Carrie's Breathe Rock

Today’s Challenge: Be mindful of where your thoughts are leading you.

Our happiness starts with our thoughts.

A week ago, I flew back to Colorado to be closer to Shorty’s Vet and CSU. I didn’t have my car, so a driver picked me (and Shorty) up at the airport and drove us home. During the one hour trip, I noticed how negative the driver was. He told me about the bad things happening in his life, and he shared with me his many believed conspiracy theories about life in general, mainly that the world would come to an end within the next 15 years.

I didn’t argue much, but I did tell him that I believed everything was going to get better in the world… soon.

This driver was a very nice guy, likable, but I couldn’t wait to get home–his attitude was depressing and exhausting. His thoughts seemed to have run away on him, and he let it happen. He decided this year would be the worst, snowiest year in Colorado. He decided that the world was coming to an end. And he decided that he would never be able to make money doing what he loved. He made up his mind how his life was going to be… and so it was… Negative.

I’ve been guilty of doing the same thing. When I was younger I had certain beliefs that held me down. Thankfully, I’ve learned that I have power over my thoughts, and therefore I have power over my life.

Staying positive isn’t always easy, but if we stay positive, our lives will be positive. If we stay negative our lives will be negative. If we focus on all the good in our future, our future will be good. If we focus on the bad in our future, our future will be bad.

Plus, positive people are a lot more fun to be around! 🙂

Shorty Update: She had her surgery on Monday. Wednesday I went back to the vet to get antibiotics because her incisions didn’t look good, they were red and bleeding a little. Friday, I took her back to the vet because the incisions looked even worse and Shorty seemed uncomfortable. My vet cleaned up the incisions, gave her more antibiotics and gave her some pain medication. My day on the couch with her turned into a week, and I can happily say that she is finally doing great! 🙂

Today’s Challenge: Have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the spirit of the Holiday.

Even though I’m sad about Shorty’s health issues, I will not let it ruin my love for Christmas, my love for my family and friends, or the excitement I feel… In fact, all the more reason to have an amazing Christmas together. 🙂

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Becky

Keep #Focus on What You Have, Not on…

b 056

Today’s Challenge: Keep #focus on what you have, not on what you might lose.

On Sunday, I couldn’t stop crying over my pug’s health issues. All I kept thinking about was my life without her. Truth is, I haven’t been alone for about nineteen years. Buddy, (Unconditional Love) my cat was with me for eighteen years and Shorty has been with me for almost nine years. When Buddy passed away this summer (My Buddy has Gone to Heaven), I was thankful I still had Shorty. But now…

I’m scared.

A month ago I found a mysterious lump on Shorty’s stomach. I had it removed and tested within a week of noticing it. Then I got that life changing phone call from my vet. “Becky, it was cancer. It’s called a Mast Cell Tumor, Grade 2.”

The prognosis seemed good but of course uncertain–watch and wait. On Sunday, a month after the original lump was removed, I found another Lump, so yesterday we took Shorty to the vet, had a needle biopsy and we’ll get the results today. Last night, I found another lump on her leg. We’re going back to the vet today.

I think at this point, we need to do some blood work and an ultrasound to see if she has cancer within, or if this is a skin problem only. I may have some tough decisions…

Yesterday, I didn’t cry and my man asked me why I wasn’t crying anymore. “I’m just not thinking about all the bad stuff today.”

It really is amazing that we can decide how we want to feel by what we think about.

And even more surprising… because I wasn’t crying and full of dread, Shorty seemed a little happier than normal, and my man was a little less sad, too. Maybe I’m the leader in this pack. 🙂

I’m going to stay positive until we have more answers. I may tear up from time to time but I’ll try to keep it to myself… I’m going to avoid thinking about the bad stuff and focus on all the good about this little baby of mine.

I’m open to hearing about other people’s experiences with their dogs and Mast Cell Tumors–the good and the bad. Advice? Opinions? Thoughts?

Thank you.

#Love Your Pets and…

shorty in bed

Today’s Challenge: If you have pets, love them a little more than you normally do.

My best friend, who never leaves me lonely, has run into some health issues. We are taking her to the vet today and I should have a better idea what we’re up against.

So do me a favor and hug your little babies a little tighter today and show them how much you love them… ❤
