Embrace Who You Are

Instead of fighting who you are, try embracing it.

A friend of mine was “supposed” to be on vacation.

She was “supposed” to relax, read a couple of books, and take leisurely walks on the beach.

Every time she tried to do the things she was “supposed” to do, she became frustrated… somewhat angry…

She couldn’t focus on the book she was reading.

She made mental to-do lists on her walks.

She thought about all the things she wanted to achieve, all the work she needed to get done.

After a night of being disappointed by her inability to “relax”…

She made her morning coffee, sat on the deck overlooking the ocean, and decided she liked who she was.

She liked that she was a hard worker.

She liked that she had ambition… It was her ambition that made an ocean vacation possible.

She shifted from what she thought she was “supposed” to do, to a vacation full of everything she wanted to do.

She took long power walks on the beach. (Blisters involved)

She worked. But usually just from her phone. (Rarely pulled out the laptop)

And she enjoyed quiet moments in the morning with her coffee, overlooking the ocean, and giving thanks.

Once she stopped trying to be somebody she wasn’t, she was able to relax… in her own way.

She said her vacation was perfect. 😊

Loneliness isn’t bad for a little while…

But don’t stay there too long.

Pick up the phone… or better yet, go visit somebody who might be lonely too.

Workout When You’re Feeling Down

It doesn’t matter what you’re going through emotionally… exercising will help you.

Move your body. Get your blood flowing and your heart pumping.

A brisk walk around the block or some fast housework or dancing to your favorite music (you can even dance in your chair)… is enough to lift your spirits.

Tap Into Your Creativity

Sketch something or take a beautiful photo or color or write a poem or play with your kid’s toys…

Do something creative. Tap into that part of your brain we often forget to use.

Take It One Day At A Time

Or one minute at a time… one hour at a time…

No need to rush ahead.

Staying in the moment is much easier than jumping into the future and creating problems that don’t exist yet.

Have future goals and plans, but stay in today. Much less stress. 🙂
